Immediate Salvation

By Dr. J. Brad Bailey

It is now known that the vast majority of Americans are unaware of what happens after they die.  Statistics prove that a larger portion of the American population believes something about eternity, but they cannot give a real reason why they believe what they believe.  Often it is superstition or fairytales that have been passed down from generation to generation that have produced people’s only understanding of eternity.

Friend, it isn’t necessary to guess about what eternity holds for you.  The Bible has much to say about the matter.  Consider these statements from Scripture that shed important light on what waits for us in eternity:

  • The Bible says that Heaven is real and people can go there.  John the Beloved reported that he saw Heaven in Revelation 21:1-2, And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”  The Apostle Paul also spoke of “How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” (II Cor. 12:4)
  • The Bible says that Hell is real and people go there as well.  An unnamed rich man died and was tormented in Hell according to Luke 16:23a, And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments . . .”  It is recorded that after the final judgment sinful people will perish in Hell: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
  • The Bible teaches that man is actually a soul with a body and that the soul lives forever somewhere – either in Heaven or in Hell.
  • The Bible says that the only way to know for certain that you will go to Heaven for eternity is to ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior.  Acts 2:21 says, And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Though all of these statements are factual, there remains one final reason why a person should trust Christ as their Savior and that is because sin has so devastated his/her life that they desire Jesus to be their Lord.  True believers have expressed an interest in God getting glory from us while we live – we want to be saved and changed NOW.

Friend, is your life spiraling out of control?  Have you experimented with a variety of lifestyles and relationships and have still been left with a sense of emptiness?  Do you feel lost and hopeless?  If so, then you need the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior now.

What Will Happen If I Get Born Again?

If you sincerely ask Christ to save your soul, you can expect ten immediate things to happen:

  1. You will IMMEDIATELY have a home in Heaven forever.  Your name will be written there, never to be erased (Luke 10:20).
  2. You will IMMEDIATELY have a new Father.  The Bible says that those who are without Christ have the Devil as their Father (John 8:44).  When you are born again, God becomes your Heavenly Father (Matt. 6:9).
  3. You will IMMEDIATELY be indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who will serve as a comforter, teacher and life-coach (I John 2:27).
  4. You will IMMEDIATELY experience a change in direction – the things you once loved you will now hate and the things you once hated, you will now love (II Cor. 5:17).
  5. You will IMMEDIATELY grow in the truth that has made you free (John 8:32).
  6. You will IMMEDIATELY become a part of the Family of God.  You will desire a church home where you can publicly profess what has happened to you, and where you can grow spiritually and identify with brothers and sisters who have also been born again (Heb. 10:25).
  7. You will IMMEDIATELY have eternal life.  You will not have to wait to live eternally, you will be enjoying the benefits of eternal life right now (John 3:15).
  8. You will IMMEDIATELY be release from the chains of sin that have you bound.  You will certainly not be sinless, but you will now have the power to sin less.
  9. You will IMMEDIATELY become a potential witness for Christ (Acts 1:8, John 4:28-29).  Once you have been exposed to His saving power, you will want your friends, family and others to experience it as well.
  10. You will IMMEDIATELY begin to grow.  Babies grow fast, and once you trust Christ you are born again (John 3:7), and you’ll be excited about how fast you are growing in Christ.  There is one more bonus – babies have no past!
